BNI in 2010

Friday, December 18th, 2009

We’re all looking forward to a busy 2010 and a full networking calendar.

This includes The BNI Big Breakfast on 26th February which will be a veritable networking jamboree.

There are also many more opportunities to networkwith brand new training sessions, seminars and events.

And one of the most important new developments in the history of BNI is the imminent launch next year of BNI Connect, giving members an on-line presence and connecting them with BNI members across the globe.

In the meantime we wish everyone all the very best for the Festive Season and the New Year.

World record row for breast cancer

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Dave Holby is attempting to row the equivalent of the Earth’s circumference on a land rowing machine (40,000 Km) over a 2 ½ year period…rowing 6 hours a day, 6 days a week! He’s been going for since May 2008 and expects to finish sometime in the December of 2010!

He’s doing it all to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Raycon is supporting him in this herculean feat. This is a time for giving and Dave is giving 2 ½ years of his life to this so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, MOST IMPORTANTLY go to his JustGiving site and just give: www.JustGiving.co.uk/WorldRecordRow.

This is such a great effort and for a great cause so, if you would like to help Dave more, you can do any or all of the following things:

  • Join Dave’s Facebook group (Dave Holby : Rowing Around The World in Basingstoke for Breast Cancer) or follow him on Twitter @worldrecordrow
  • Pass this on to any friends, family or contacts who may be interested in supporting Dave and Breakthrough Breast Cancer
  • Let me know if you have any contacts in the media (journalists, television, radio, etc) that might be interested in featuring Dave (who is an actor and very media-friendly) in their paper, show, etc.

Dave has a website which has lots more information like videos of him and radio interviews that he’s done (www.WorldRecordRow.com).

Quality photography – still relevant in the digital age

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Despite the huge advances in camera technology over the past few years, especially the advent of digital photography, it still takes a special eye and skill level to make those really special shots. Anyone armed with a digital camera, Blackberry or even iPod Nano can take stills and video – up0loading them to printers and websites with ease. However, while the actual quality of the images is high, the subject matter can often be pretty dire.

So, it is great to see a master in action. Last night Charles Gervais from Both Hemispheres Photography trecked all the way out to Tunbridge Wells, carrying what looked like an entire photographic studio, and spent two hours capturing the essence of David Taylor’s family. It was great to see how he interacted with my small sons, letting them into the photographic process and came up with novel ideas to deal with a rather grumpy 19-month old child.

Literally hundreds of photos were taken in a variety of situations round the house and I can’t wait to see the results. Certainly some of the shots that I saw captured images of my family that showed us all in a completely new light.

If you want quality photos, in whatever setting (weddings, family portraits, corporate events) and would like to deal with an intelligent and artistic photographer, do get in touch with Charles.

It was the social event of the season…

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Yes, it truly was the social event of the season!

Once again, Clerkenwell BNI proves itself worthy of the BNI Chairman’s Award of Excellence, in the distinguished category of “Xmas Do (and this time the Award will be carved out of solid crystal, with added bling!).

All the Glitterati who were any Glitteratti descended upon La Cucina in Clerkenwell and, led by their incomparable Compere, Simon “Ray of Sunshine” Rayner, partied the night away. The paparazzi were sneaking around in force, and, unseen by their unsuspecting subjects, caught the party in full swing

(all photos copyright anonymous paparazzi, and no professional photographers were used, or harmed, in the making of these photos. Really, none at all).

Not everyone is a friend of the camera

Only a chosen few are friends of the camera

At Bargate Murray we try to be media savvy. Yesterday, Philip Henson, partner at Bargate Murray, was interviewed on BBC 24 about the threat by RBS directors to resign if their bonus proposals were blocked by the government. Cutting edge stuff!
