I'd like to say well done Jean on an oustanding education slot - not only informative about how mentoring can help the chapter but a bit of Greek mythology thrown in for good measure. Great way to get the brain buzzing at 7am - lets also keep up the habit of uploading to blog! Emma,

It was a fantastic time and I am so glad so many people from the chapter attended. It would be brilliant to have another such event. Maybe a tour of Southwark? Jean Liggett

Charles, I hate to see an uncommented Blog! The Elite Chapter heard your anecdote this morning when you visited us. It's certainly true what you write. Woody Allen once said that eighty percent of success is showing up!

I can't believe what I have just done, I have opened a Twitter account - www.twitter.com/petrometro. What kind of a twit am I? Sion Whellens is to blame. It's all his fault. He received about £6,000 of business from his Twitter account from a web designer around the corner from his printing house.

So what now? I'm being sceptical, very sceptical. But I am willing to be convinced.

And we are all very happy to hear that! :) For me, tis only my third year but I can say the same, BNI is very much worth it, not only because of the business received but also very much because of the support network we have got here.

Snow was the theme of the meeting today, coupled with an education slot from Peter Calloman making the point that the self employed will carry on working whatever the weather.

Many of us have found ways of working without having to trudge into the office and the same is true for many salaried employees.

The sad fact is that it takes a national disaster such as a few mm of snow to realise that UKplc does not need offices like it used to. Midas realised this some years ago and works with companies looking to slim down their office costs by recognising that staff can work differently and just as effectively with teh right resources and back up...

How do we do this?... Through our bespoke consulting process, education, training and support...

So who do you know who wants their business to be more effective without having staff trudging into the office unnecessarily rain or shine...?

Another key focus of my presentation on 10th December was on how I reduce risk for the property investor who wishes to invest overseas, and maximise opportunity. We evaluate the level of risk of a country. Are mortgages available, is there a resell market, capital growth, legal system, government support such as subsidies, what are buying costs. We carry out due diligence on all developers and properties we feature. Their track record is important as well as an exit strategy. We also reduce risk by interviewing the buyer. What is their attitude to investments - adventurous, conservative. What does the investment need to do for them - income, holiday home..., what is their budget, what type of property are they looking for. My experience is that many agents overlook these important factors, and then the investor subsequently regrets making the property investment when it is too late!
